Dogue Training FAQs

My dog took a puppy class so which class is right for me?
  • Our Good Dog Manners 101 class is the one you and your puppy need. This is the foundation class and people are surprised at how much they learn in our beginner class.
My dog is shy and I’m not sure how they’ll do in a group setting?
  • We have plenty of room in our classroom. Shy dogs are the ones that need group time because they need to learn to trust you that nothing bad will happen. Building their confidence is something you’ll be taught to work on in class. If you are more comfortable in a 1-1 environment you and your dog can certainly start with privates.
What kind of treats do you recommend?
  • Hotdogs are the #1 treat here. Most of our clients use them because they are affordable and work great for the dogs. String cheese is our 2nd client favorite. Dogs go by the smell of a treat and the people with the best focus are using people food and getting phenomenal results.
I want to use dog treats, not people food. Is that okay?
  • Of course you can use whatever you like. Just be sure the treats are soft and the dog can quickly swallow them. Absolutely NO crunchy treats like milk bones or dog food. Zuke’s and Bil Jac treats are good choices. Dogs seem to like them a lot!
Doesn’t people food cause dogs that beg?
  • Absolutely not. That’s crazy. If you feed the dog from the table or the couch they’ll beg. Period. If you don’t they will not.
People food is bad for dogs, isn’t it?
  • Dog food IS made of “people food”. And just like there are good and bad foods for us; the same goes for dogs. Are treats nutritionally balanced and healthy for dogs? Likely not! However it’s training class and it’s fun.
I’ve been to other classes and I’m not convinced this can help me and my dog. They are really naughty. I’ve tried everything!!!
  • You haven’t tried Dogue Spot. People come from many miles away for private training with Tiffany. If you haven’t tried Dogue Spot you haven’t tried everything. Don’t give up. A private lesson may be a better choice for you if you are feeling like nothing has helped you.
Do you separate classes by size of dog or breed?
  • No we do not. A dog is a dog and every dog and their owner are treated equally at Dogue Spot.
Can I bring my kids?
  • Children are allowed if they are not a distraction to other dogs, people or classes. If your child cannot sit quietly throughout the entire class you’ll be asked to leave them home in the future.
My dog listens to me but not my spouse. Will classes help?
  • Your dog will always listen to whoever is the strongest pack leader. Classes will surely help you build a bond with the dog, however the dog will ultimately look to the strongest leader. What you take away from our classes will give you the tools to be the pack leader. It’s up to you to make it happen.
Can my child train the dog?
  • We’ve found that many kids are great with training starting around 3rd grade but they still need a parent to participate and help them with exercises. Contact us directly if you wish to have your child work the family dog or new puppy at class.
What is your refund policy?
  • We do not issue refunds. Once you enroll in a class at Dogue Spot we are 100% committed to you and your dog. Therefore we ask that you are 100% committed to your dog and complete the classes. With our class size limits once a spot is reserved for we cannot find someone to take your place when class starts. Before you enroll make sure you are committed and willing to come to class with your dog.
